No safety nets - the art of risk and resilience
What happens when an artist trusts instinct over certainty?
About Melissa Clements
Archibald, Lester and Darling Prize finalist, Melissa Clements, is a 26 year old local artist with an emerging national reputation. Specialising in classical figurative painting, Melissa's work explores dualities of the human condition as avenues to make sense of being alive in the contemporary world.
Driven by gut instinct, Melissa quit her job at 23 for a full-time career in fine art.
Within 6 months, she was commissioned to paint the official portrait of the Chief Justice, Peter Quinlan, she ran 4 sold out painting courses and was selected as a finalist for the prestigious Darling Prize. Now Melissa is working on her most ambitious exhibition yet, inspired by the depths of human emotion, to her travels near the top of the High Arctic.
