Artist responsibilities
Unlike a commercial gallery, IAH does not have any paid staff.

All installation, promotional, attendant, administration, and management support services are provided by volunteers, many of whom work full or part-time, have family commitments, and are practicing artists themselves. Therefore, exhibiting artists are required to be flexible and work in a collegial cooperative way with the many volunteers required to produce a successful exhibition. Exhibiting artists are required to attend the gallery throughout their exhibition (or organise a proxy to attend in their place). Whenever possible, volunteers will attend to support the exhibiting artist (or proxy).

Please note, two people are required to attend the gallery at all times. If, for any reason, two people are not available to cover a shift, the gallery will not open for that shift.

Promotion and Publicity

Exhibiting artists are responsible for producing their own promotional materials, in printed and electronic formats, and providing them to IAH at least six weeks before the exhibition start date.

Exhibiting artists will promote their exhibition on their social media, among their contacts, colleagues, friends, and family, and in the local community.

IAH will promote the exhibition on the IAH website, IAH email newsletter, IAH social media pages (Instagram and Facebook).

Intake and information sessions

The IAH committee and exhibition program team meets with all prospective exhibiting artists to discuss their exhibition proposal, including the concept, intent, and alignment with the association’s objectives, as well as potential installation challenges. The meeting also allows prospective exhibitors to assess whether the requirement to work collaboratively with a diverse team, the gallery space, and the terms and conditions would suit them.

2026 Waitlist

The 2026 exhibition program is being finalised. However, if you would like to be added to a waitlist for consideration in the event of a 2026 cancellation, or if you would like to be considered for the 2027 program, please complete the online application form.

Application process

  1. Read the information provided.

  2. Complete the online IAH Art Gallery Exhibition Application Form, and upload supporting materials, i.e. concise CV, 3 images (maximum size 2MB) and image descriptions.

  3. Applicants who complete all the submission requirements will be invited to meet with IAH Art Gallery stakeholders to discuss a potential exhibition in more depth and determine whether there is a good fit between the applicant's and IAH gallery exhibition program's objectives and availability.

  4. At this stage, applicants will be provided more in-depth information about the gallery and IAH’s expectations.

  5. If both parties agree to proceed, IAH will invoice the artist and provide an agreement to sign. Then further information about the preparation process will be provided to guide the artist.

Please note, the application process is competitive and participating in the process does not guarantee a place in the Gallery Exhibition Program. Priority is given to current financial members of IAH who regularly volunteer with the gallery or behind the scenes for IAH.
