(AIR) Program
Information for interested artists
IAH offers a shared cultural space where creatives and community connect. In addition to workshops and exhibitions, it offers Artist–in–Residence (AIR) opportunities for 2 artists at any one time, for periods from approximately 2 to 6 months. These residency opportunities are open to artists from a variety of creative disciplines (e.g. visual arts, fibre arts, jewellery making, sculpture, mosaics etc).

There will be Information Sessions at the Inglewood Arts Hub Inc on:

Wednesday 26 August 2026 at 6.00 pm and
-
Saturday 29 August 2026 at 10.00 am.
A current and / or past AIR will be in attendance and there will be an opportunity to view the studio spaces.

How to apply
If you wish to proceed with an application for an AIR position, please attend an information session and then complete the online application form, providing the required attachments, including images / copies of your work (maximum of 6 recent pieces). Artists can apply for a maximum of one residency per calendar year, from 2 to 6 months duration. A second residency allocation may be possible, at the discretion of the IAH.

IAH Facilities
Each AIR studio will have a table, lockable storage and wall hanging space. Each studio has good lighting, a bench, a small fridge, kettle and sink. A co-located workshop has 4x1.8m tables which are available for (limited) temporary use when not booked by other Hub users.
Artists considering applying for a residency should firstly view the space and its surroundings to be satisfied that it suits their needs and that they will feel secure and comfortable throughout various times of the day. This can be done at the time of attendance at an Information Session.
Selection criteria
Essential

Established identity as an artist (3+ years, inclusive of post-secondary /tertiary arts education).

Commitment to a career as a practicing artist.

Available to be physically present at the IAH for 16 hours per week, for the length of the residency.

Verbal communication skills (applicable to running a workshop and speaking about their work as an artist).
Desirable
-
A social media profile which reflects a current artistic practice.

Recent history of exhibiting and promoting their work.
-
Demonstrated interest in encouraging and facilitating creative activities in others.
-
A connection to Inglewood and surrounding suburbs.
AIR opportunities
-
Two to six months’ free dedicated studio workspace, individual or shared basis, with secure storage.
-
Unlimited key access to the AIR studio 24 hours / 7 days.

Have their arts practice and residency promoted on the IAH website and social media channels.

Run paid workshops at reduced room hire charges (50% reduction), to be approved by and booked through the IAH Workshop Coordinator.

Display artwork in the AIR studio and sell artwork direct to the community (20% commission).

Opportunities to exhibit at the end of the residency, or casually in the foyer if space is available, at a reduced hire fee (50% discount).
AIR responsibilities

Be in residence at least 2 full days, or equivalent, per week (minimum of 16 hours), as agreed prior to signing the Agreement between yourself and the IAH representative. A calendar of AIR’s days and times to be displayed on the Studio door.

Supply all your own consumables, materials, and equipment.

Maintain security of your space. The cost of a lost key will be the responsibility of the AIR.

When in day-time residence, the IAH signage will be placed outside the Hub, in locations advised by the Hub, with the AIR studio door remaining open to encourage engagement with visitors.

Conduct at least one community engagement activity during the residency.

Maintain the studio in a neat, safe, and clean condition. At the end of the residency, the studio must be cleaned, and all items removed, in readiness for the next AIR.

At the end of the residency, complete a feedback questionnaire.
Community Engagement is a requirement of the AIR Program
The City of Stirling and IAH offer the space free of charge, in return for the artist engaging with the local community and undertaking at least one Community Engagement Project. Artists are required to engage with the community during their residency on an informal “meet and greet” drop – in basis during their in-residence days.
It is a requirement that prospective AIRs are or will become, a member of the Inglewood Arts Hub. In addition to other benefits, membership will provide Public Liability Insurance.
Community Engagement Projects could be at least one or a combination of the following:

an artist talk,
-
workshops with community members,
-
“show and tell” of “works in progress” /open studio,
-
specific drop-in sessions and/or working on a project relating to the Inglewood location /community, or
-
“community walk”, from an artist’s perspective,
-
other.
Community engagement projects will be discussed further and agreed upon before the residency’s start date. The cost of materials, and any other expenses associated with an AIR’s project are the responsibility of the AIR and could be covered by a fee charged to participants.
There is an opportunity for an AIR to hold an exhibition during or at the conclusion of a residency (which can be shared with another AIR). The usual fee for the exhibition space will be discounted by 50% and commission on works sold will be 20%.
History
Members of Inglewood on Beaufort Inc. and a dedicated group of local artists came together in 2023 to establish the Inglewood Arts Hub. IAH is conveniently located in the heart of Inglewood, a vibrant and historical neighbourhood surrounded by cafes, restaurants, a public library, post office, schools, childcare facilities and supermarkets. The premises are owned by the City of Stirling and while the IAH is supported by the City of Stirling, it is itself an incorporated body. All persons involved with the management and administration of the IAH are volunteers.
