Originally from Kalgoorlie, Kelly now resides in Perth but frequently incorporates elements of her hometown into her work, often with a touch of humor. She has been involved in creating art for as long as she can recall and pursued studies in Art & Design at Kalgoorlie College.
How would you describe your art?
I call myself an ‘up-cyclist’ artist.
An up-cyclist artist?
Yes - I like to explore the concept of a second life, highlighting outdated and obsolete items and
using them to develop intentional and reflective art. As a long-term renter, the upcycled adventure began from limited means and a great imagination.
How did you come up with the title ‘Eclectic Expressions’?
I feel that my exhibitions have something for pretty much everyone and, that is why I chose to name the exhibition at the Inglewood Arts Hub, Eclectic Expressions.
What is the main theme of your exhibition?
The Eclectic Expressions Exhibition aims to establish a link between the viewer and the upcycled artwork, showcasing the transformative power of art in driving social change.
Do you work from a home studio?
I don’t have a studio but a lovely large old table is where I create with ample sunlight.
Have you found any particular challenges in becoming an artist?
The number one challenge for me as an artist is pricing. The true value of art is hard to put a price on. You can have the materials cost, and the framing cost - but pricing an original idea and a piece that may take months or a year to complete - is hard.
