Andrew Grero (aerogrero) is a West Australian painter and mural artist known for his bold, colourful, and expressive style.
Inspired by space, travel, the built environment, portraiture and basketball, Andrew's work explores subtle variations of light and colour, often heightened for impact. Influenced by artists such as Arthur Boyd, Jeremy Geddes, Eric Yahnker, and Bob Dylan, Andrew has been involved in community art from a young age, with works exhibited in Kununurra, Bristol, and across Perth.
Diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2022, Andrew has continued to expand his practice, completing numerous commissions. His projects include murals for the Australian Defence Force in Karrakatta, Ashdale Secondary College, and a 23-metre work for West Coast Suspensions in Bassendean.
Grounded in values of sustainability, inclusivity, quality, and connection, his work aims to inspire others and challenge perceptions of living with Parkinson's. Andrew’s first solo exhibition explores all aspects of living with Parkinson's.
Signal Lost: Finding my way with Parkinson's
Through a collection of bold, expressive, and deeply personal artworks, viewers are invited on an emotive journey through life in the footsteps of someone with Young Onset Parkinson’s Disease (YOPD). With Andrew's diagnosis strongly influencing the passion and direction of his craft in recent years, this exhibition supports his mission to inspire others and reframe the idea of what it means to live and thrive with Parkinson’s.
The pieces use mixed media and a range of contrasting styles to form a versatile body of work. Drawing on influences from pop culture and artists such as Arthur Boyd and Andy Warhol, subjects include still life, everyday items and self portraits exploring a changing sense of self. Immersive art and staging concepts are also drawn upon to create a deeper connection with the work. The artworks are connected using artistic storytelling, allowing the viewer to move through the collection and discover the everyday, unseen challenges of living with YOPD.
Through this exhibition, Andrew hopes to initiate open conversations, promote greater awareness, and broaden community understanding of the impacts of living with YOPD. His goal is to create lasting impact, connect and resonate with others at various stages in their health journeys, and inspire others struggling with symptom management to show what can be achieved despite the challenges.
