Tell us a bit about your process
As part of my art practice I collect the used art materials (like dried acrylic and oil tubes) and create fleeting abstracts. I etch, shave, and sculpt these materials, elevating detritus to art.
These unique and temporary constructions are small enough to fit in the palm of my hand, but I photograph them and the change to grand scale alters the perception of - and celebrates - the material. I then produce limited-edition prints on sustainable archival cotton rag and they find permanence. Each print is created with the aim of a more sustainable art practice.
Each print comes with a signed, numbered and embossed certificate of authenticity.
Basil's artworks have been exhibited across WA and internationally.
His exhibition Undercurrents explores the emotions that lie beneath the surface of everyday life.
The pieces explore the breadth and depth of the human condition, with themes encompassing courage, hope, and the longing to connect.
